The handle of the punch/soup ladle has been realistically modelled in the form of a horse's head, emanating from an impressive scrolling enveloping leaf design. The tapering stem is embellished with the contemporary engraved presentation inscription 'Presented to A. C. Renton by his father on his birth day, 3rd May 1833'. The reverse of this impressive example of antique silverware features an exceptional honeysuckle style heel to the shell shaped bowl.
