Latham & Morton Silver Plate Egg Warmer Globe Orb Shape Victorian

About the Item

Unique Victorian silver plate egg warmer in a globe or orb shape by Thomas Latham and Ernest Morton for Latham & Morton of Birmingham. It has all the appropriate hallmarks, pseudo hallmarks, and trademarks. It is in wonderful vintage condition. There are places where the brass is showing through the silver plate. We consider that beautiful patina. It does not have the cup for a heat source, but we do not know whether it had one initially. Please see photos, circa 1866-1895. Well….this is another piece that has been in my private collection for many years and I’ve decided to share it with you. I love its orb or globe shape. In researching this egg warmer I did not find any others that were round. All the other I viewed were egg shaped. The orb form continues as a theme with a matching globe as the knob on the lid that has, as does the main body, what we believe to be latitude and longitude marks. It also has orbs as feet and as supports for attaching the container to its Stand. It has hallmarks and pseudo hallmarks on is underside. They are: an A1 in an oval establishing amount of silver used; a crown in a shield, this one dates the piece to pre-1895; an owl in an oval; EP in a shield, denoting electroplating; and TL & EM in a quatrefoil the trademark for Latham & Morton silver plate pieces. I used this fabulous piece several ways including a trinket box and on a shelf as object d’art. What will you use it as when you make it yours? Egg warmer: • Height 9.25 inches • Diameter 5 inches • Weight 1.2 pounds Boxed size: • Height 13 inches • Width 9 inches • Depth 9 inches • Weight 3 pounds.

  • Mid 20th Century Guardian Service Aluminum Dual Purpose Cookware 14 Pieces
    Located in Topeka, KS
Incredible Mid-20th Century Guardian Service dual purpose 14-piece cookware set including 7 pots, 2 trays, and 5 interchangeable lids. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that these are vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. The set is in great overall condition with a nice patina. The roaster, one triangle pot, and octagonal tray seem to have had more use than the rest, but all look fabulous. Please see photos and zoom in for details. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa,1930s-1950’s. What have we here? THIS is a set of “Kitchen Jewels!” and “A Kitchen Symphony!” as the 1940’s Guardian Service Ware Catalog states!! A piece for every purpose and a purpose for every piece!! WOW!!! This is an INCREDIBLE set of 14 FABULOUS pieces designed by Master craftsmen including 9 cookware pieces and 5 lids (4 aluminum & 1 glass) all comprised of the finest quality aluminum bearing Guardian Service’s signature stamp of a knight between two axes etched into the glass. These pieces were originally sold by door-to-door salesmen through in-home demonstrations and today, their vintage fabulous-ness is sought after by collectors and people that want the dual purpose of both functional and attractive cookware. Some pieces have a very nice feature with interchanging lids and others serve a dual purpose. We have an oval vegetable dish that stands about 1 ½ inch tall and a large roasting pan that have both an interchanging lid AND the vegetable dish can sit inside the roasting pan like a steamer! We have 2 triangle pots (kind of heart shaped) but the catalog calls them triangle pots, with 1 interchangeable glass lid that bears the signature knight stamp. Four round cooking pots, 1 small with an aluminum lid; 1 medium round pot with lid and 2 round pots with the same diameter; although 1 is a bit taller, with an interchanging aluminum lid, AND the shorter round pot will fit inside the larger round pot like a double boiler! We also have a fabulous octagon shaped serving tray with handles which will double as a griddle, and we are pretty sure the prior owner enjoyed a pancake or two as the bottom of this piece has some black cooking marks. The large roaster also has some of these marks, but that certainly does not detract from the functionality of either piece and all the others are as clean as a whistle! This entire set is SO versatile and convenient and can be used from oven to table! Whether you are a collector or intend to use it on a daily basis, this set is definitely what the kitchen chef...

Meriden Britannia company Victorian silver plate coffee set with coffee pot cream, sugar, and matching jar with lid. Measures: Coffee: 6.5 x 9.5 x 11.5 Jar with Lid: 7 x 6 x 8.5 Cream: 6x 2.5 x 6.5 Sugar: 6 x 3.5 x 5 The Meriden Britannia company was formed in 1852 in Meriden, Connecticut[1] as a manufacturing company focused on producing wares in Britannia metal. By 1876, the Meriden Britannia company had grown a great deal and the company made significant efforts at the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia in that year. The company won the First Place medal for plated wares. According to Sotheby's in New York, "The publicity of the award and the impression the firm made on the fair's 8 million visitors was continued by the catalogues and other intensive marketing; by the end of the 1870s Meriden Britannia Co. was considered the largest silverware company in the world."[2] By 1891, Meriden Britannia had warerooms in New York (46 East 14th Street, Union Square); Chicago (47 State Street); San Francisco (134 Sutter Street); London, England (7 Cripplegate Buildings, Wood Street, E.C.); and Paris, France (26 Avenue De' L'Opera). The main factories were in Meriden and a branch factory was in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.[3] By 1893, the company had expanded production with its floor surface covering over eight acres of space in Downtown Meriden.[1] In 1898, the Meriden Britannia company became part of the larger International Silver company corporation headquartered in Meriden.[4] Afterwards, while part of ISC, many designs were produced under the Meriden Britannia brand with design trade catalogues specifying Meriden Britannia wares. Meriden Britannia company designs are included in many museum collections, including the Brooklyn Museum, New York; Dallas Museum of Art; Davis Museum at Wellesley College, MA; Jewish Museum, New York; Wadsworth Atheneum, Hartford, CT; Mint Museum, Charlotte, NC; Victoria and Albert Museum, London, England; Wolfsonian FIU, Miami Beach, FL; Yale University Art Gallery, New Haven, CT.[5] Recent museum exhibitions featuring Meriden Britannia designs...
