About the Item

Designed by celebrated American industrial designer Lurelle Guild for International Silver in 1934, this iconic four-piece Art Deco coffee service exemplifies the streamlined elegance of the Machine Age. Executed in silver plate with striking ebonized wood handles and sculptural floral finials, the design balances clean cylindrical forms with subtle decorative detailing, resulting in one of Guild's most recognizable and enduring tableware creations. The service comprises a coffee pot with hinged domed lid, covered sugar bowl, creamer, and the original oval serving tray. Each piece is impressed on the underside with the manufacturer's mark, "Lurelle Guild International Giftware," along with the International Silver trademarks. The restrained horizontal banding at the bases, sculptural handles, and contrasting dark wood grips embody the sophisticated modernism that made Guild one of America's foremost industrial designers during the 1930s. Nearly a century after its introduction, the design remains remarkably contemporary. Condition is good, consistent with age and use. The silver plate exhibits areas of wear with the underlying base metal visible in places, particularly along portions of the coffee pot handle, together with areas of tarnish where the original protective lacquer has worn away. The coffee pot has a dent to the lower back side of the body. The tray shows light surface scratches from use, and there is general wear throughout consistent with age.
