19th Century Austrian 900 Sterling Silver Jack End Knife Rests, S/4

About the Item

A set of four Austrian Sterling Silver knife rests, with traditional cast Jack-style ends, circa mid 19th Century. The long, tapered center struts are supported by four point jacks at either end. Each strut shows an older monogram of PKR. Rather than balance a knife on the edge of a plate, these rests were placed to the right of each place setting to keep the knife from soiling the table linen. 3.75 in. L x 1.0 in. W x 1.0 in. H Weighing .50 ozt Showing a makers mark and the crest of a woman’s head with a moon on her forehead. The Dianakopf or Diana’s head mark was first used in 1867. In the 12th century, the chaplains were often very rich, either by the material or by the work of embroidery. They were given as gifts to ladies.
