20th Century Italian Solid Silver Strawberry Bowl with Sugar Bowl and Lemon Jug

About the Item

Smooth bowl for serving strawberries in 800 solid silver. A round crystal has been inserted inside the bowl to prevent the silver from being scratched when taking the strawberries. On the edge of the bowl a branch has been welded where leaves and strawberries twist to it. The branch ends with a bifurcation to make it the seat of the strawberries ladle. The ladle has a rounded square shape and also ends with a strawberry and leaves. On the sides of the branch, 2 seats for the sugar bowl and the lemon jug were welded. This article stands out for its originality and for the elegance of the design which, placed on the table, also amazes for its versatilit. Italian silverware, already with a centuries-old tradition, had a great development in the twentieth century and produced pieces of the highest quality that the whole world envies. This elegant piece measures 13 1/4'' in length by 8 3/8'' in width by 3 1/2'' in height, weighs 26.2 troy ounces, and bears hallmarks as shown. ‘Everything stamped Keller is good,’ said Lucien Folize. The famous silversmith Gustave Keller quickly carved his niche and won appreciation for his work. He established his firm in 1856 and it stood out for its fine quality. His work consistently stole the shine for the simplicity of the beauty of its silverware, ranging from household items like jugs to silver cutlery. His silverwork is one that draws attention to itself, not for its primary purpose, but the bold lines that make its curves and shapes. For this, he won several awards in his lifetime. At the Paris World Exhibitions of 1867 and 1878, he was presented with silver and gold medals respectively. Years later, at the Paris World Fairs of 1889 and 1900, he won the gold medal and Grand Prix respectively and was commissioned to produce important trophies for Monaco’s principality. Keller’s silver is preferred for its subtle but exquisite finish and high functionality which draws clients from the ancient Russian Royal...
