20th Century Italian Sterling Silver Sulky with Horse and Driver

About the Item

Made in Italy sterling solid silver sulky with horse and driver. The sulky, the horse and the driver are made with the casting method and finished with chisel. The bridles are in leather while the external part of the wheels is in briar. Harness racing is a form of horse racing in which the horses race at a specific gait (a trot or a pace). They usually pull a two-wheeled cart called a sulky, or spider, occupied by a driver. In Europe, and less frequently in Australia and New Zealand, races with jockeys riding directly on saddled trotters (trot monté in French) are also conducted.
