Antique Signed Hawkes Cut Glass and Sterling Silver Center Bowl

About the Item

Intaglio cut glass centre bowl with sterling silver pedestal base signed by Hawkes. Thomas Gibbons Hawkes founded what was probably this country’s most successful factory devoted exclusively to the cutting of glass. It certainly had the longest period of operation of any cutting shop 82 years. Only fully-featured glassworks ones that included blank-making as well as glass-cutting.

    An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George V English sterling silver and glass matchstriker; an addition to our ornamental collection. This exceptional antique George V sterling silver and glass matchstriker has a globular form to a circular shaped well. The surface of the glass body is embellished with a serrated texture which composes a match striker. The glass body surmounts an impressive circular shaped dished well, featuring with a raised rounded border with paralleling applied moulded decoration to the rim. This exceptional example of antique silverware is fitted with an oakwood insert to the underside of the base; this insert indicates the high quality of the piece.
