Antique George V Sterling Silver Ceremonial/Presentation Key

About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George V English sterling silver ceremonial/presentation key, an addition to our ornamental presentation collection. This exceptional antique George V sterling silver presentation key has a rounded quatrefoil shaped bow (handle) to a knopped shaft and rectangular toothed bit. Each side of the shaped bow/terminal to the key is embellished with a paralleling tooled decorated bordered cartouche in addition to a leaf motif to the lower portion. The shaped cartouche to the anterior surface of the key bears the engraved inscription 'Presented to The Lord Mayor, Newcastle upon Tyne, Ald. Gilbert Oliver by Mr Geo. Wilkes, April 1st 1938.' The reverse cartouche of the bow is vacant. The plain cylindrical shaft is encircled with plain moulded, tiered knops. This impressive key terminates with a plain cylindrical tip and decorative cut bit, embellished with engraved scrolling leaf designs to the anterior surface. The key retains the original gilding. The key is fitted to the original hinged leatherette presentation box with satin and velvet lined interior, securing with a push fit catch. The interior of the box bears the retailer's mark 'Walker & Hall Ltd, Sheffield.' Dimensions: Length 11.8cm/4.6". Width of bow 4.9cm/1.9". Depth 0.6cm/0.2". Weight. Two troy ounces/61.1g.
