Antique Georgian English Sterling Silver Soup Tureen
About the Item
An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Georgian English sterling silver soup tureen; an addition to our dining silverware collection.
This exceptional antique George III English sterling silver soup tureen has an oval rounded form.
The plain surface of the body is embellished with a contemporary bright cut engraved crest depicting a boar's head erect and couped.
The upper flared rim of the tureen is encompassed with a fine and impressive applied gadroon decorated border.
This antique soup tureen retains the original impressive hallmarked push fit domed cover ornamented with a further band of gadroon decoration beneath a further bright cut engraved crest, identical to that to the body.
The impressive cover is surmounted by the original hallmarked handle ornamented with applied foliate and floral designs.
This Georgian tureen is fitted with two handles embellished with reed decoration and a baluster knop to the centre of the hand piece.
Each handle is ornamented with impressive fawn mask terminals in junction with the plain body.
This soup tureen is supported by four fine and impressive volute scrolling feet, each accented with scrolling leaf designs with a submerging and protruding talbot dog design to the terminal.
Condition
This antique soup tureen is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in excellent presentation condition. The applied decoration is very sharp and the bright cut engraved crests are very crisp. Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the body and rim of the cover are all very clear.
