Portuguese neoclassical silver toothpick holder. A cast figure of trident-wielding Neptune stands in front of gilt scallop shell; both mounted to faceted pedestal with stepped base, which is pierced for inserting toothpicks. Foot has tooled flowers and scrolls. Marked (1836-1843). Overall dimensions: H 7 x W 3 3/8 x D 3 3/8 in. Weight: 8.7 troy ounces.
