Antique Victorian Sterling Silver Hot Water Jug
About the Item
A fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver wine or water jug, an addition to our antique silverware collection.
This impressive Victorian sterling silver hot water jug has a baluster form onto a circular pedestal foot.
The plain body of this fine Victorian water jug is embellished with a broad band of bright cut ornamentation depicting figures equipped with spears and shields amongst horse-drawn chariots.
This narrative display incorporates a circular cartouche illustrating the contemporary bright cut engraved initial 'C.'
This impressive scene is flanked with evolute scroll and Greek key fret band borders.
The upper rim and lip of the jug are encompassed with a paralleling bead decorated border.
This impressive antique water jug is fitted with a hinged hallmarked domed cover surmounted by a fluted carved wood finial.
The water jug retains the original opposing scroll woven bamboo decorated handle, incorporating a scrolling thumbpiece to the upper portion.
The foot of this Victorian water jug is ornamented with a further band of bright cut engraved evolute scrolling ornamentation in addition to applied bead decoration.
This versatile jug could be functionally used for hot water or coffee.
This jug displays desirable and unusual ornamentation for its size.
Condition
This antique water jug is a very good gauge of silver, excellent quality and in excellent presentation condition. The bright cut engraved decoration is very crisp. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the body and part hallmarks to the cover are all very clear.
