Antique Victorian Sterling Silver Mustard Pot

About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver mustard pot; an addition to our silver cruets/condiments collection. This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver mustard pot has a plain cylindrical form. The body of the mustard pot is embellished with pierced interlacing scrolling leaf ornamentation. The upper and lower rims of this mustard pot are ornamented with applied bead decorated borders. This fine mustard pot retains the original hallmarked hinged cover surmounted with an impressive scrolling, lobed thumbpiece. The surface of the cover is encircled with bright cut engraved scrolling leaf and floral ornamentation. This fine example of antique silverware is fitted with a shaped handle featuring an incurved, shaped thumbpiece. The mustard pot is fitted with the original removable blue glass liner. The interior of the cover retains the original gilding. Dimensions Length from back of handle to rim 9.6cm/3.8". Diameter of body 6.6cm/2.6". Height to top of thumbpiece 7.6cm/3". This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver mustard pot has an oval shaped form on to a circular spreading foot, modelled in the form of a period coal scuttle or flower basket. The lower portion of the body is embellished with undulating fluted ornamentation. The upper portion of the body is embellished with a wide incurved band of scrolling leaf decoration accented with a floral motif to each spiralling terminal, all on a matte background. This sterling silver mustard pot is fitted with impressive two hallmarked hinged covers embellished with scrolling leaf and floral motifs on a matte background.
