Georgian Sterling Silver Christening Mug by Joseph Angell, London 1825
About the Item
This is a very good, sterling silver mug or Christening Mug made in the late Georgian, George IVth Regency period, by Joseph Angell 1st of London, in 1825.
The mug is handmade and has a slightly tapered body with a notched loop handle. It has horizontal reeded detail to the body in two sections, below the rim and above the base rim.
Reeded detail like this is typical of the English Georgian Regency period and is often used and seen on furniture of that period.
The mug has a full set of hallmarks near the top of the body to the right of the handle.
Weight: 121 gram
The body has no engraving, embossing or monogram which is rare to find on a Georgian period mug as these pieces were often embellished with additional engraving later in the 19th century by the Victorians.
This piece would make an ideal "Christening Mug" or gift.
