La Paglia Sterling Silver Bowl & Pair of Candlesticks Mid-Century Jensen Style

This exquisite set consists of:
- a sterling silver pair of candlesticks (10.5 inches x 4 inches) with beading and floral detail similar to the exquisite work of Georg Jensen or La Paglia, weighing 22.9 ozt, and bearing hallmarks as shown.
- La Paglia International Sterling silver centerpiece dish in Mid-Century Modern Georg Jensen-inspired style. The bowl, measuring 12'' from handle to handle by 7 1/8'' in width by 2 1/2'' in height, has two handles with elegant flowers and weighs 21.3 ozt.
The International Silver Company was formed in 1898 by various independent New England silversmiths that, between 1898 and 1903, joined themselves together to form a company that became the world's largest manufacturer of silverware. The International Silver Co. was organized with an authorized capital of $20,000,000.
Alphonse La Paglia (1907-1953), a Sicilian-born silversmith who studied and trained with Georg Jensen, designed this special line for International Sterling in 1952, for only 1 year.
Georg Jensen, a Danish silversmith, set up his own silver business in 1904 in Copenhagen. Jensen's training in metalsmithing along with his education in the fine arts allowed him to combine the two disciplines and Revive the tradition of the artist craftsman. Soon, the beauty and quality of his creations caught the eye of the public and his success was assured. The Copenhagen quarters were greatly expanded and before the end of the 1920s, Jensen had opened retail in Berlin (1909), London (1921), and New York (1924).
