Neoclassical, sterling silver, parcel gilt, pedestal based sauce/gravy boat, New York, Ca. 1870, Wood and Hughes - makers. Shell - form scalloped interior is gilded; bead work motif on handle is continued on base. U-shaped opening on top of Neoclassical face at edge of bowl is for holding a sauce ladle. Measures 8 1/2 inches wide x 5 inches deep x 6 1/2 inches high (at highest point). Weighs 12.505 troy ounces. There is a light, beautiful script monogram - AECL - (see photos) on one side. Dark spots in photos are reflections. Excellent condition.
