Splendid circa 1820 German Tankard Profusely Carved Cherubs Sterling Silver

We are delighted to offer for sale this very rare German antique early 19th-century hand-carved tankard with sterling silver top and bottom This German Silver Mounted Carved Tankard which has the foot struck with pseudo marks, probably Hanau, its 19th century as mentioned and stamped with French weevil duty marks. The tankard is very much in the 17th-century style, the mounts are chased with fruit, foliage and masks, the hinged cover with a young Bacchus finial, the body carved in high relief with a Bacchanalian scene featuring satyrs, nymphs and putti in a woodland setting, the whole thing is simply eye candy This piece is Museum-quality which is where it will end up I’m sure unless some lucky collector snaps it up fast, it is a real tour de force of craftsmanship, I’ve honestly never seen anything so fine and so detailing In terms for the condition for the age and how delicate it looks its actually very robust, the arm of the Cherub finial has broken cleanly and sealed back in place, there is one hand missing on a faun, otherwise, it’s an exquisite example These pieces are becoming rarer every year and more difficult to find as there’s only a certain amount in existence Dimensions: Height 27cm Width 16.5cm Depth 14.7cm.
