This fine antique Victorian sterling silver novelty pepper has a plain ovoid shaped form. The body of the pepper is embellished with impressive chased decoration depicting a cracked egg shell with a boy’s face and hands to the anterior surface and his feet and buttocks to the reverse. The body has pierced 'pepper' holes in a hexagram formation to the upper portion. This pepper retains the original fully hallmarked screw fit weighted base; which when unscrewed provides access to permit the pot to be filled. This novelty pepper is a fine example of its type. - Vintage Sterling Silver and Enamel Salt and Pepper SetLocated in Jesmond, Newcastle Upon TyneAn exceptional, fine and impressive, pair of vintage English cast sterling silver and enamel salt and pepper set, in the form of a soft boiled egg in an egg holder - boxed; an addition to our silver cruets or condiments collection. These exceptional vintage Elizabeth II sterling silver condiment set consists of a salt Shaker, a pepper Shaker and two spoons. The pieces of this silver and enamel salt and pepper set have been realistically modelled in the form of soft boiled eggs in egg cups. Each condiment Shaker is ornamented with an enamel eggshell design with the top portion 'cracked' away to reveal the pierced salt and pepper holes; the upper portion of the pepper retains the original gilding. The enamel and silver egg covers detach from a bayonet style fitment to a brown enamel decorated egg cup; once the cover is removed it can be determined the pieces were commissioned to be used as functional egg cups. The spoons have circular rounded bowls to plain waisted stems and terminate with cast finials encircled with scalloped borders and circular motifs, accented with initial 'M' to one and 'N' to the other. These vintage silver and enamel salt and pepper set are fitted to the original hinged crimson leatherette presentation box, with a velvet and satin lined interior and secures with two hinged catches.
