Sterling Silver Set of 6 Kings Pattern Dessert Knives Hallmarked, London 1822

About the Item

Sterling silver set of 6 kings pattern dessert knives. All 6 pieces are stamped with a full English hallmark, applied by the London Assay Office, but not all the marks are legible on all six pieces:- Lower case g & h - Date letters for London 1822 & 1823 Kings head - Duty mark (duty has been paid to the Crown) Lion - Sterling silver quality guarantee Leopard`s head - London Assay Office mark WE over EW - Maker`s mark for William Eley I & William Fearn, A good and very rare set of King`s Pattern dessert knives, with a beautiful kings honeysuckle pattern on both sides. See the honeysuckle instead of the more common shell; on both sides of the stem ends, They would have, originally, had mild steel blades fitted, which would have rusted away a long time ago. Hence the rarity of Georgian knives surviving today. These replacement blades possibly date to the late 19th. century, but have never been used. The handles are well used, and have a lot of small use marks, but no splits and no dents that would in any way, spoil the set. A really good set of rare knives. Length:- 223 millimetres / 8.78 inches. Total weight:- 392 grams / 12.6 troy ounces. Average weight:- 95.8 gms. / 3.08 ozs.
