    An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George V English sterling silver cafe au lait set in the George II style; an addition to our collectable teaware collection. This exceptional antique George V sterling silver cafe au lait set consists of a coffee pot and hot milk jug. Each piece of this cafe au lait set has a plain baluster shaped form to three feet, all in the early George II style. The surface of each piece is plain and unembellished, accented with an applied moulded border to the upper rim. Each piece is fitted with the original hallmarked domed hinged cover surmounted by an impressive cast silver pineapple finial; each cover retains the original hallmarked, detachable hinge pin. Both the milk jug and coffee pot retains the original opposing scroll carved wood handle, fitted to cast and applied scrolling sockets. The coffee pot features an exceptional cast silver swan necked spout ornamented with an undulating socket, the sparrow beak spout to the milk jug is ornamented with a decorative leaf formation to the nadir. Each piece is supported by three impressive cast sterling silver feet ornamented with a scrolling foot to a shell design in junction with the body. Condition This antique sterling silver cafe au lait set is a superior gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The interior of the each piece has been professionally cleaned and is ready for use. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of each piece and part hallmarks to the sleeve of each cover, in addition to the hinge pins, are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the superior gauge of silver.     A very good large silver swing handle basket of pierced oval form. The arched swing handle with two cast female busts arising from a leaf capped double C-scroll support. The cast and applied rim of shaped foliate and floral entwined decoration. The central bowl of the basket engraved with a rocaille cartouche containing an armorial. The top of the handle is decorated with a leaf form cartouche within which is the crest of a deer. The sides of the raised basket with hand cut pierced decoration. The whole standing on four cast and applied legs, decorated with a beautiful scrolling foliate design rising to high relief female faces, on leaf-form pad feet. Hallmarked to the underside for London 1747 by Edward Aldridge. The underside of the handle bears the lion passant and maker’s mark, both struck twice.
