William Stroud Antique Sterling Silver Snuffer Tray

About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George IV English sterling silver snuffer tray; an addition to our antique silverware collection. This exceptional antique George IV sterling silver snuffer tray has an oval, serpentine shaped form. The surface of the tray is embellished with the contemporary engraved initials 'SHW' below a Baron's coronet. The raised rounded border of the tray is encompassed with a cast and applied scrolling border accented with an array of scrolling leaf motifs to either rounded end. This antique silver snuffer tray is fitted with an elevate cast volute scroll decorated scrolling handle with a floral decorated thumbpiece and ribbed fingerpiece. This fine example of antique George IV silverware is supported by four cast sterling silver bracket style feet, each enveloped with further leaf decoration to the lower portion. This exceptional tray, crafted by the renowned London silversmith William Stroud, is the finest of its type you could hope to acquire. Condition This antique silver snuffer tray is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The cast ornamentation is very sharp. Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the snuffer tray are very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the superior gauge of silver.     An excellent, fine and impressive antique Georgian English sterling silver candle snuffer / pen tray; an addition to our 18th century silverware collection. This exceptional antique Georgian sterling silver candle snuffer tray has a navette shaped form. The surface of this antique silver snuffer/pen tray is ornamented with a contemporary bright cut engraved crest depicting a centaur regardant holding and arrow on a bended bow, above the bright cut engraved initials 'WIL'. The outer circumference of the surface is encompassed with an undulating wriggle work decorated border. The raised rounded sides of the tray are embellished with pierced decorated urn designs conjoined by suspended bright cut engraved festoon ornamentation further accented with undulating pin struck decoration. The tray is further embellished with an applied bead decorated border to the rim. Either end of the tray incorporates an impressive pierced and applied scrolling leaf decorated handle accented with a pendant drop design to the inner surface. This exceptional tray was crafted by the London silversmith William Plummer who is known for his work with pierced decoration. The centaur in this stance is also a depiction of Sagittarius (otherwise known as Arcitenens), one of the twelve signs of the Zodiac. Condition This antique silver candle snuffer...
