1910s German Silver Canteen of Cutlery for Ten Persons

About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique German 800 standard silver straight fiddle, thread and shell pattern flatware service for ten persons; an addition to our flatware collection. The pieces of this exceptional, antique straight German silver flatware set for ten persons have been crafted in the fiddle thread and shell pattern. The surface of each handle is embellished with a paralleling thread decorated border accented with a shell design to the terminal and reverse of each bowl. The posterior surface of each fork and spoon terminal are ornamented with a contemporary bright cut engraved monogram initials 'GI'. This continental flatware service consists of 64 pieces: Basic service: Ten table forks Ten table spoons Ten dessert forks Ten dessert spoons Ten teaspoons Ten egg spoons Additional pieces: Four serving spoons The hallmarks struck to each component of this antique service consists of: Maker's mark: Hesse/berg (Hessenberg) Silver quality/purity mark: .800 (800/1000) National mark: Crescent moon and crown This antique silver service can be purchased with knives if so desired, either a traditional Thread and Shell pattern or Fiddle Thread and Shell pattern can be arranged. This antique flatware service is supplied in felt cutlery rolls; which not only protect the items in storage but significantly reduces tarnishing. "Straight" means all the pieces are made by the same maker in the same year. Condition This German silver flatware set is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition. The German hallmarks struck to the reverse of each piece are all very clear.     An exceptional, fine and impressive, comprehensive antique English sterling silver Sandringham pattern flatware service for twelve persons - boxed; an addition to our flatware collection The pieces of this magnificent and comprehensive antique George V English sterling silver flatware service for twelve persons are crafted in the Sandringham pattern. Each spoon and fork is embellished with a paralleling border to the handle, in addition to a pointed terminal. The original table and dessert knives, in addition to the carving set are fitted with composite handles, and the fish service and fruit service all retain the original plain rounded mother of pearl handles; each with plain ferrules. The fundamental pieces of the basic service were crafted by the Sheffield silversmith Emile Viner of Viner's Ltd between 1934-1939; these pieces will have been crafted in fewer years but due to the hallmarking system the components bear the date letters 'r', 's', 't', 'u', 'v' and 'w'. This service will have been retailed as a complete set and between the dates stated. The stainless steel blades of the original composite handled table and dessert knives bear the mark 'By Appointment to the Late King George V, Viners Ltd, Sheffield' accented with 'Stainless Deluxe'. This impressive canteen of cutlery is fitted to the original, fine and impressive oak three draw canteen table; this is an impressive piece of furniture in its own right. The table is fitted with a pair of Art Deco style gilt metal handles to each drawer, in addition to plain escutcheons. This exceptional cutlery table is supported by four plain legs with tapering knopped feet. The velvet interior of each draw has some wear in keeping with age, but can be considered to be in presentation condition.     An exceptional, fine and impressive vintage sterling silver Plain Pine pattern flatware service for twelve persons, in the Art Deco style; an addition to our canteen of cutlery collection. The pieces of this exceptional vintage George VI silver flatware service for 12 persons have been crafted in the Plain Pine pattern. The plain tapering handle of each piece is embellished with Art Deco style geometric panelled decoration with a stepped-down top. The posterior surface of each handle is ornamented with a triangular panel to the terminal. The original sterling silver forks have three tines/prongs; this is a fine feature of the service. This vintage Art Deco flatware set consists of 43 pieces: The components of this service have been crafted by the Sheffield silversmith and flatware maker Ollivant & Botsford Ltd between 1937-1941; the pieces will have been crafted in less years but due to the hallmarking system the items are struck with the date letters u and y.
