Antique Sterling Silver Trefid Rat Tail Pattern Spoons

About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive pair of antique James II sterling silver Trefid Rat Tail pattern spoons; an addition to our silver cutlery collection. These exceptional antique 17th century sterling silver spoons have been crafted in the Trefid Rat Tail pattern. The anterior surface of each silver spoon handle terminal is plain and unembellished. The reverse surfaces of the Trefid-shaped terminals feature the contemporary engraved initials 'MTM'. The reverse of each impressive example of antique flatware features a scroll decorated rat tail to the rounded bowl. Note: After surviving the Great Fire of London the records at the London Assay office were destroyed by fire in 1681; their catalogues and documentation began again in 1697. Due to this unfortunate event we are unable to associate a maker to these spoons. Condition These antique James II silver Trefid spoons are an excellent gauge of silver, excellent quality and are in excellent condition. The British hallmarks struck to the reverse of each spoon have wear in keeping with age and location. Dimensions Length 20 cm / 7.9" Width of bowl 4.5 cm / 1.8" Total weight 2.9 troy ounces / 90.2g Maker: Untraced Maker's Marks Date: Circa 1680 Origin: London, England. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these pieces of antique dining silverware.
