Eight Japanese Imari Decorated Porcelain Plates, Meiji or Taisho Period

About

A delightful set of eight Japanese Imari plates, wonderfully painted and richly gilt. The central medallion featuring a gilt kirin, a benevolent mythological beast similar to a Western unicorn. The kirin is surrounded by images of Jurojin, the God of Longevity (one of the Seven Lucky Gods) and various sages employed in scholarly pursuits. The plates with an unusual color palette of gold, orange, blue, green and mauve. Plates are priced individually.
