Georgian Sterling Silver Soup Ladle Edinburgh 1801

About the Item

This large Georgian sterling silver soup ladle carries the makers mark for Graham and McLean of Glasgow and was assayed in Edinburgh in 1801. The long elegantly curved handle also carries a family crest, possibly Scottish, and the monogram I (or J) MB. It weighs 245 gms, (7.88 troy ounces) and measures 371 mm (14.5 inches) in overall length. The bowl is 95 mm (3.75 inches) in diameter and is 32 mm (1.25 inches) deep. It is in very good condition.

    A exceptional, fine and impressive pair of antique George III English sterling silver sauce tureens with ladles; an addition to our Georgian silverware collection These exceptional antique George III sterling silver sauce tureens have a plain oval shaped form onto a plain oval spreading pedestal foot to a collet rim. The body of each tureen is encompassed with an applied girdle above a contemporary bright cut engraved coat of arms displaying an escutcheon party per pale of a cross engrailed and a lion rampant, encompassed with fabric swaps and suspended tassels. The rim of each antique tureen is encompassed with an applied gadroon decorated border. These impressive sterling silver Georgian tureens retain the original hallmarked push fit covers, surmounted with an impressive reed decorated handle enveloped with chased decorated leaf designs to the terminals. The surface of each cover is ornamented with a contemporary bright cut engraved crest depicting an armoured knight armed mounted on a horse salient holding in his dexter hand a sword above his head.
