  • White Porcelain Moer Mortar and Pestle Handcrafted in Portugal by Origin Made
    By Chris Liljenberg Halstrøm
    Located in Porto, 13
The Moer Mortar and Pestle set, made from porcelain and chestnut wood, has a minimal yet sculptural expression. When in use, the heavy and elongated shape of the mortar ensures a sturdy work base. When not in use, the pestle rests naturally, following the inner shape of the mortar. This forms a beautiful and harmonious composition, indicating that it is always ready for use. Material: Porcelain and Wood 100% fully handcrafted in delicate porcelain, each piece is one-of-its-kind with potential variations in color, shape and texture. Observations of such differences across products or orders does not constitute a basis for order cancellation or product returns. Designed by Chris L. Halstrøm, made by João Monteiro and Carlos Barbosa. The Craftsman Carlos Barbosa and his two sons run a wood working factory in Paços de Ferreira. They produce high quality objects and furniture for both local architects and international clients. The unique thing about them is they stock a very large variety of Portuguese and imported hardwoods, and combine the best of hand and machine processes to make high quality products, in small to medium sized production runs. Based in Palhaça, near Aveiro, João Monteiro runs a small workshop previously owned by his father, where familiar feelings spark the minute we enter the door. Fátima, who has been working with João and his father before him, for over 30 years, tell us, while mixing the glaze with her bare hand, how the secret for a perfect glazing is in the constant movement, the only tool she needs is a soft brush to correct small imperfections, the rest of the work is done only using her hands. They all share the same concern about the future of the industry and their dream is to have a space that can host schools in order to expose younger generations to the magic of handmade ceramic. The Designer Chris Liljenberg Halstrøm...
