20th Century Continental Silver Five-Piece Tea and Coffee Service

About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique European sterling silver five-piece tea and coffee set/service; part of our silver teaware collection. This exceptional antique European silver tea and coffee set consists of a coffee pot, teapot, cream jug, sugar bowl and slop bowl. Each piece of this five-piece service has an oval form, apart from the slop bowl which has a circular rounded form. The surface of each piece is embellished with fine and impressive bright cut engraved interlacing bands accented with a narrow zig zag border and wriggle work ornamentation. The teapot and coffee pot are fitted with plain flush hinged hallmarked covers surmounted with the original carved painted wood and silver topped finials; the flush hinges indicates the high quality of the service. The cover of each piece is encompassed with an identical border to that of the body, continuing to the upper plateau and across the hinge. The teapot, coffee pot, cream jug and sugar bowl retain the original carved wood C shaped handles accented with plain scrolling thumbpieces. The coffee pot and teapot are fitted with impressive plain tapering spouts. The hallmarks struck to the underside of each base include: Maker's mark: A. Collet Silver quality/purity mark: 0,800 (800/1000) Registration number: 3155 Condition This European silver tea and coffee set is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. Each piece has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition. The bright cut engraved decoration is all very crisp. The interior of each piece has been professionally cleaned and is ready for use. The hallmarks struck to the underside of each piece are all very clear.     An exceptional, fine and impressive, composite antique Victorian English sterling silver four-piece tea and coffee service/set; part of our silver teaware collection. This exceptional antique Victorian four-piece sterling silver tea and coffee service consists of a coffee pot, teapot, sugar bowl and cream jug. Each piece has a pear shaped form onto a circular spreading foot. The pieces of this Victorian tea and coffee set are embellished with embossed panels in a swirl design, accented with bright cut engraved segmented quatrefoil leaf motifs on a textured background. One side of each piece incorporates a circular cartouche displaying the engraved initial 'B'. The upper rims are encompassed with plain applied moulded borders. The teapot and coffee pot are fitted with domed hinged hallmarked covers reflecting the identical decoration as that to the body.     An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver six piece bachelor tea and coffee service; an addition to our silver teaware collection This exceptional antique Victorian six piece sterling silver tea service / set consists of a spirit kettle, teapot, coffee pot, cream jug, sugar bowl and tea caddy. The pieces of this antique tea and coffee set have a circular baluster shaped form. This set benefits from a matching oval cylindrical tea caddy; often with time such a piece would be detached from a service. The surface of each piece is embellished with alternating horizontal panels of impressive chased simplified trellis patterns, leaf motifs and rosette designs. The upper rim of each piece is encompassed with an applied moulded decorated border. The spirit kettle, teapot, coffee pot and tea caddy retain the original hinged hallmarked covers, which feature a continuation of the aforementioned chased decoration. Each teaware cover retains the original cast sterling silver finial. The centre of the tea caddy cover incorporates an oval cartouche ornamented with a bright cut engraved coronet and monogram initials. The teapot and coffee pot are fitted with the original hallmarked cast sterling silver handles, embellished with chased ornamentation and plain scrolling thumbpieces. The spirit kettle is fitted with a large scrolling cast sterling silver handle, ornamented with scrolling leaf designs and impressive scrolling sockets. The fine and impressive kettle is supported on the original cast hallmarked detachable three-legged stand fitted with a locking pin and security chain. The stand is ornamented with further chased patterns, accented with scrolling leaf leg brackets to three tapering, scrolling legs and leaf decorated feet. The detachable hallmarked spirit burner is plain and unembellished, with an applied border. The spirit kettle, coffee pot and teapot have cast sterling silver swan necked spouts, each ornamented with panels of scrolling leaf and floral decoration to either side. The cream jug and sugar bowl are fitted with sterling silver C shaped handles, reflecting the design of those to the teapot and coffee pot. The tea caddy, cream jug and sugar bowl retain the original gilt interiors. The underside of the tea kettle features the retailer's mark 'Hunt Roskell Late Storr & Mortimer' and the registration number '4852'.     A fine, impressive and unusual antique Victorian English sterling silver composite four piece tea and coffee service / set in the Aesthetic style; part of our silver teaware collection. This exceptional and unusual Victorian sterling silver tea and coffee set consists of a coffee pot, a teapot, a cream jug and a sugar bowl. The pieces of this antique silver four piece tea and coffee service have a circular bulbous shaped form to a circular collet foot, all in the Aesthetic style. The unusual sugar bowl is supported by a pedestal style foot. Each piece is encircled with a bright cut engraved Greek key style fret band above large acanthus leaf designs. The teapot, coffee pot and cream jug feature two contemporary bright cut engraved crests depicting a battlement tower and a stork with the dexter claw resting upon a circular medallion with a lion rampant. The crests surmount the motto 'Esse Quam Videri' - To be, rather than to seem'. The silver coffee pot and teapot are fitted with hallmarked flat hinged covers embellished with bright cut engraved husk decorated border. Both covers are surmounted by an impressive sterling silver finial, realistically modelled in the form of a butterfly. The coffee pot, teapot and cream jug are fitted with plain C-shaped handles, each accented with impressive scroll decorated upper terminals in junction with the body. The antique teapot and coffee pot are fitted with plain swan necked spouts accented with bright cut engraved ornamentation to the lip. The coffee pot, sugar bowl and cream jug were made by the Birmingham silversmith William Gough of Gough & Silvester in 1866, whereas the teapot was assayed in London, 1870 and crafted by Samuel Smily at Goldsmiths Alliance Ltd.
