7 persons Modernist Tea Set Theodore Haviland Le Tanneur Limoges Porcelain 1929
About the Item
This modernist tea or coffee set for 7 by Theodore Haviland Le Tanneur Limoges and decorated by the famous André François. The marks precisely date this design in 1929, see picture of this mark.
We have here an exceptional modernist design both in shapes and decor.
The sleek decor is chic with a refined mix of grey and gold on fine white porcelain.
Both the grey and gold painting on the serving tea pot and mild jug are dark with a mat finish obtained by agate stone work. The gold and grey are shiny on the cups.
The painting in solid flat colouring combined with geometric shapes result in a unique strong visual design.
André François had multiple manufactures in Limoges and was awarded many prizes. He sold one of his manufactures which he had bought from Bawo & Dotter to Theodore Haviland and Le Tanneur in 1930, one his vase is one the Museum Adrien Du Bouché in Limoges. See the picture of his signature A.F. Limoges.
Please note there were 8 cups and saucers in the original picture but I miss one, there's actually 7 in the set.
Very careful packaging.

Tea and Coffee Set by Alfred Lanternier Limoges Porcelain Circa 1920 27 Pieces
It is the Indian Ferns model, Fougères Indiennes in French, dating between 1919 and 1929 which we can tell from A. Lanternier & Co Limoges with the red star marks on all pieces.
The set comprises twenty seven pieces composed of eight coffee cups and saucers, four large coffee or tea cups and saucers, tea pot, milk jug and sugar pot.
Shiny and transparent white porcelain with outstanding workmanship on the forms of all pieces of the set. The relief of the whole surface of the thin plates is remarkable. This server ware is a real gem of the luxury porcelain that Alfred Lanternier was renown for worldwide in high society and royal courts. A. Lanternier won a Gold Medal in 1925 at the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts, and this set was produced during that era.
