MINTON - 'Faisan' - Rare antique Aesthetic Movement ceramic tea cups and saucers - set of four - transfer decorated in brown on a cream ground - elaborate 'Japonesque' decoration featuring panels with birds and flowers - each piece signed on the base - each with a Victorian registration mark - United Kingdom - circa 1880. Fair antique condition - stains - glaze crackle - hairline crack to one saucer - one chip to one cup (inside base rim) - no loss - signs of age and use. Tea Cup Size/Dimensions - 3 7/8" (10 cm.) Wide x 3 1/8" (8 cm.) Deep x 2 1/8" (5.4 cm.) high. Saucer Size/Dimensions - 5" (12.2 cm.) diameter x 1" (2.5 cm.) high.

    Wonderful aesthetic movement tea cup in hand-painted and hand-gilt porcelain by the English manufactory Minton. Blue background with stylized red flowers imitating the cloisonné technique, very common in the Japonisme ware. Attributed to Christopher Dresser, a famous designer that was working for Minton in 1867. He made very decorative designs, using very often this special shade of blue.
