Persian Repoussé Silver Plated Water Kettle
About the Item
This antique Persian water kettle is shaped from silver-plated brass and was once used to boil water for tea and other hot drinks. The body is decorated with repoussé and chased designs of palmettes, vines and other florals and the lid is topped with a pomegranate-shaped knob, a symbol of fertility and life. The tapered body is finished with a tall, arching handle and a large s-curve spout, giving the tea pot a sculptural form that sits well atop a cabinet or shelf.
