Midcentury Italian Hand Painted Fish and Fruit Tureen with Ladle & Under Platter

About the Item

A hand painted midcentury Italian earthenware tureen set, circa 1950s. The four piece service includes the lidded tureen, ladle, and a large undertray. Beautifully hand decorated overall with fish, green parsley sprigs, berried rosemary stalks, lemons, and branching peaches and plums. The tureen has a paneled and footed form with side handles, the lid has a top knob formed as a green artichoke. The ladle and side handles are lined in black with blue shading. The platter is edged with a garland of branching plums, peaches, lemons and greenery. Bold green lining follows the paneled form of the platter and tureen. A monumental piece for serving soups, seafood stews or pasta. The tureen and platter are both marked: W.C.& G. Made in Italy Measures: Platter: 17.5 in. L x 12.5 in. W x 1.5 in. H Tureen with the lid: 14 in. L x 10 in. W x 12 in. H Ladle: 10.5 in. Lenght the bowl is 3.5 in. diameter x 2 in. D Displays beautifully – very clean interior, in remarkable condition. Tiny spots of glaze loss on the artichoke knob, minimal.
