Archaic silver stater from Siris, Macedonia, circa 500 BC. The front of the coin with a nude ithyphallic satyr, seizing the arm of a fleeing nymph. The reverse with an incuse punch. A rare and dramatic example of archaic art. Weight: 9.85 g. Diameter: 23.30 mm. Provenance: The ANA Centennial Sale Numismatics Fine Arts XXVI, Rosemont, 14th August 1991, lot 56. Numismatica Ars Classica, Zurich, auction 6, 11th March 1993, lot 118. Subsequently in a French private collection, with French cultural property passport.
