Silver drachm from Zankle, Sicily, circa 520-500 BC. The front of the coin with a leaping dolphin, swimming into the scythe shaped harbour of Zankle. The inscription reading: Dankle The back with a scallop shell within a grid shaped incuse pattern. One of the earliest coins from Zankle, with a charming representation of the city's famous harbour. Weight: 5.50 g. Dimensions: Diameter 23.10 mm. Provenance: Bank Leu 2, 25th April 1972, lot 88.
