Original Wood Carved Letterpress Carnival Scene
Large hand carved carnival scene letterpress wood block. Made in 1937 by the Neal Walters poster company in Arkansas. Great depiction of a carnival midway including a carousel with horses and swans, an aeroplane ride, a ferris wheel, ticket booths, clowns with balloons, circus tents, and many people in period dress. The red color is from the ink that was used during the printing process. This letterpress was part of a series of three letterpress that were used to print a three color poster. This is the secondary (red) plate. The primary (blue) plate is currently on 1st Dibs as well. The red plate is dated 1937 and has the initials of the carver. This really is an impressive piece of art in person.
