About the Item

A wonderful piece by Danish designer Arne Bang. Beautifully glazed and signed with the artist mark and model number ("172"). Bang was a trained sculptor but is best known for his design work in stoneware and ceramics. He received awards and honors from the Johan Franz Ronges Foundation (1928), The Greedy Hjelmstjerne Rosencrones Foundation (1928), The Great Gold Medal of the Academy (1932), Hanne Benzon's Legacy (1933), The Great Legacy of the Academy of Fine Arts (1933-34) Carl Julius Petersen Foundation (1942) and Billedskærerlaug's Extra Prize (1944). In 1940, Bang became a member of the Academy Council and since chairman of the Art Society's sculptor section. Bang exhibited quite extensively in the 1930s and 40s including shows at the Charlottenborg's Autumn Exhibition (1925, 1927, 1928, 1931, 1932), Winkel & Magnusson's Kunsthal 1927, The Autumn Exhibition of KE (1927, 1930, 1945), The World Exhibition of Barcelona (1929), the Copenhagen Exhibition Committee (1931), The Permanent Holmegaard Glass Showroom Nyhavn (1932), The World Exhibition Paris (1937), Kunsthallen Købmagergade (1937, 1938), Charlottenborg Autumn Exhibition (1940, 45), Exhibition Frankson and his students at Charlottenborg (1943), Brødrene Christensen Kunsthandel, Ringstedsgade in Næstved (from 1949). In 2011 his work was included in Modern Form, retrospective exhibition at Vejen Kunstmuseum. Condition:
The ceramic base is in excellent vintage condition with very light, if any, wear consistent with age and use. Lamp shade is coming loose in one section (see photo 4) and may need to be replaced at some point.
