Eric James Mellon Unique Studio Pottery Tile with Nudes Titled Mermaid
About the Item
A very fine and unique, fresh to the market, stoneware studio pottery tile shaped panel hand painted with nudes titled Mermaid by renowned ceramic artist Eric James Mellon (British, 1925-2014) and dated 2000.
Trained at the Central School of Arts and Crafts in London in the 1940’s Eric is more renowned for his figurative work, often including nudes decorated with ash glazes.
The stoneware tile shaped panel is of rectangular shape and is hand decorated in ash glazes and painted to the front with a seated naked lady within a stylised landscape with a running fox in the background and with a small open fronted pagoda styled building with a naked mermaid and man embracing. The panel is painted predominantly in shades of blue and red and is signed along the edge with the customary running fox mark and is dated 2000. It is also titled MERMAID.
Provenance: from a private West Country collection and acquired directly from the artist. Fresh to market.
