About the Item

A fantastic, quite unique and rare early work by famed American studio potter Rose Cabat who became well known for her ceramic "feelies" and use of innovative glazes. These formative early pieces are very scarce. This piece is signed by Cabat on the base. Cabat's work can be found in many permanent collection and museums such as: Arizona State University Art Museum, Tempe, Arizona Kansas City Art Institute, Kansas City, Kansas Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, New York Museum of Arts and Design, New York, New York National Museum of American History, Washington, D.C.     Wear consistent with age and use. In very good vintage condition with light natural wear (please see photos). Has a small glaze flake, likely in the making, on the underside of the base which is not uncommon for works of this age and can not be seen when the piece is displayed.

    A fantastic early work (circa early 1950s) by Master Greek-American potter Peter Voulkos. Signed on base with incised signature by Voulkos. Voulkos is widely considered to be the most important and impactful ceramists of the modern era. He won the Rodin Museum prize at the first Paris Biennale in 1959 and was the winner of a Guggenheim fellowship in 1984. Voulkos received the College Art Association’s Distinguished Artist Award for Lifetime Achievement in 1997. He was made an honorary member of the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters in 2001. He also received six honorary.
