Paul Soldner Signed Large Raku Fired Mid-Century Modern Vessel Sculpture Vase

About the Item

A rather unique and special piece by renowned American potter Paul Soldner who in the 1950s was Peter Voulkos' first student and later became famed for developing the technique now known as "American Raku", a practice of using low temperature salt firing to make his vessels. This vessel is in fine vintage condition and is signed or marked with Soldner's chop mark or stamp standard for pieces made at this time. Soldner's work can be found in collections and museums worldwide including: Victoria and Albert Museum United Kingdom Los Angeles County Museum of Art Museum of Arts and Design New York American Museum of Ceramic Art, Pomona, California (which opened with a featured exhibition of his work in 2004 titled "Inferno") Australian National Gallery, Sydney, Australia National Museum of Modern Art, Koyoto, Japan Oakland Museum of Art Scripps College, Claremont Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American Art, Washington DC Taipei fine Arts Museum, Taipei, Taiwan Dimensions: 14.5" high, 9" wide, 5" deep.

    A fantastic early work (circa early 1950s) by Master Greek-American potter Peter Voulkos. Signed on base with incised signature by Voulkos. Voulkos is widely considered to be the most important and impactful ceramists of the modern era.
