Homemade Banner Commemorating the Landing of Apollo 11 on the Moon
GRAPHIC HOMEMADE BANNER COMMEMORATING THE LANDING OF APOLLO 11 ON THE MOON WITH ASTRONAUTS NEIL ARMSTRONG AND BUZZ ALDRIN, ON JULY 21st, 1969: Red, white, and blue homemade banner, made to celebrate the initial landing of men on the moon. The event occurred when Apollo 11 touched down on July 21st, 1969, carrying astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, who six hours later, emerged and walked on the moon's surface. In the circular, center medallion is an American eagle preparing to land on a lunar landscape, gripping a laurel branch in its talons for victory, with a night sky in the background and the earth partially visible. The eagle is executed in embroidery floss on quilt batting, the moon and earth are hand-painted on the black velvet background, and the medallion is bordered with a gold, decorative, metallic trim. Above are the words "Apollo 11" and below is Armstrong's famous quote "The Eagle Has Landed," uttered by him with the landing Craft, called the "Eagle" reached the ground. The letters are made of white felt and are adhered to a background of blue burlap, bordered on 3 sides by red velvet. The same metallic trim is used on red velvet tabs along the top edge, and to either side of the blue field, which is wedge-shaped at the bottom with matching gold metallic fringe. The backing is white burlap. There is a small maker's presentation tag on satin ribbon, embroidered with the following message: "To Cevon from Grandma."
