Large Hand Woven French Grape Pickers Basket-France, 19th c.

Large 19th century French handwoven grape pickers basket. The leather straps are for carrying the basket on your back. The vertical strapping terminates in the thick wooden bottom. The baskets wonderful form fitting shape is strengthened with wire. There are some bits missing at the top (see photo), however, the basket is structurally very sound. This is the most desirable of these baskerts and the hardest to come by, as they are so collectable.
The basket is actually oval.
The top is 25.5" wide x 24 deep and 33.5 tall.
