19th Century, Large Pima-Papago Native American Basket

About

This large, hand woven basket, likely Pima-Papago, or similar Southwestern Native American Tribe, is in worn condition from much use, and has lost it's symmetrical shape. It lists or leans a bit to one side and has several losses of woven grasses on the widest portion of the vessel's circumference, likely from much abrasive contact over time. Still the nutty brown color, with a darker, chocolate colored geometric pattern, is very handsome and attractive. The price reflects its condition, but is still a piece with value for any collector of Native American basketry.
