Antique Native American Child's Beaded Leggings, Cheyenne, Late 19th Century

About

Vintage antique 19th century Native American beaded child's leggings created circa 1875-1900 by a Cheyenne (Plains Indian) maker. Most likely created for a girl or a young woman, this pair of leggings are constructed of native tanned hide with trade beads. Meticulously beaded in a classic Cheyenne bar design with stylized tepee (tipi) motifs. The Plains Indian culture area spanned west from the Mississippi River to the Rocky Mountains. And from present-day Texas into Canada. The Cheyenne migrated with the buffalo herds and their territory encompassed much of the Great Plains of the United States including present day Minnesota, Montana, Oklahoma and parts of Colorado, Wyoming and South Dakota. Individual legging measures 12.25 x 5 inches. Overall measurement of both pieces as displayed 12.25 x 11 inches. Custom Display stand/mounting services are available for an extra fee. Authenticity is guaranteed.
