Chancay Large Standing Female Figure

About the Item

Cream slip pottery, large standing female figure with arms raised. Nicely painted red and chocolate-brown face, with a finely detail geometric headband. Scattered mineral deposits on the surface. Feet restored, repaired from approximately fifteen original pieces with restoration over the break lines, scattered wear to the painted decoration. Provenance: Estate of David Sheridan, Branchburg, NJ., acquired 1950s to early 2000s, by descent to family. Culture or Country: Chancay. Period: Ca. 1000-1250 A.D. Size: 21-1/4”H. x 12-1/4”W.
