Navajo Medicine Rattle, 1920

About the Item

Medicine Rattle Navajo 1920 The Medicine Rattle's top end is made from deer hooves connected to the base of the rattle by buffalo hide thongs. The base of the rattle is buffalo hide wrapped near the top by strips of untanned buffalo hide. The entire base has been saturated with dark terra cotta mud. The condition overall is excellent considering the age and use, showing wear along the handle, and appears with a rich original patina.
