About the Item
A traditional pair of vintage Lama Oaxaca pottery vase or vessels made from “barro negro” (black clay) from Mexico. Each vessel has unique hand-carved geometric details. Barro negro is one of several pottery traditions in the state. Barro negro is one of the best known and most identified with the state. It is also one of the most popular styles of pottery in Mexico. The origins of this pottery style extend as far back as the Monte Albán period. Although decorative, the objects were made with functionality in mind and could also be used for drinking, storage, or ceremonial purposes. From a private collection. Dimensions: 4.75”h x 4”dia / 3”h x 4.5”dia. In exceptionally good vintage condition consistent with age.
