18th or 19th Century French Ship Chandler's Trade Sign

About the Item

18th or 19th century French ship chandler's trade sign, circa 1800, an oval pine double sided sign built with large dove-tails, advertising Cooperage and Cordage. A very rare sign that was most likely catering to the whaling trade (what other ships needed barrel making on par with a rope walk?) that retains its weathered original paint. A piece of Folk Art as rare as free-floating ambergris! Measures: 20-1/2 in high x 27-1/2 in wide.
