Carved and bobbin turned wood with historic red on over original green painted surface. Inscribed 'J. GESCHE HEIDENRICHS.' Dated '1786.' Northern European. Measures: 42.5" high x 24" wide x 15.5" deep. A rare Turner’s open Armchair, with high upright finials and triple arched cresting incorporating the carved name and date of J. Gesche Heidenrichs and 1786. This example has elaborately turned spindles and a plank seat set into the turned seat rails. There is very good historic paint history discernible, with an old ox blood red over the original green paint surface. There is evidence of much use, resulting in wear, scars and bruises. There is also an unusual historic copperplate written inscription beneath the seat. Decorated with a pair of love doves, this delightful early dated example would have been made as a wedding or betrothal gift in the love token tradition.
