Folk Art Carved Wooden Atlantic Salmon Model, Firm of PD Malloch, Perth Scotland

About the Item

This is an exact model of a 30 pound salmon caught in 1933 in the famous Upper Stobhall Beat on the river Tay by the renowned firm of P.D. Malloch, a famous old time tackle shop in Perth which employed Scottish model makers who would create exact copies of trophy fish. Malloch models divided into three categories referred to as the early Malloch maker (1900-1922), middle Malloch maker (1920- early 1930s), and late Malloch maker (1934-1952). Based on the date which this fish was caught, the model maker would have been referred to as a middle Malloch maker. Many fishermen considered the Atlantic Salmon as one of the most revered sporting fish in the world, and hand painted models like this one reflected how beautiful these fish are. The exceptional model is mounted on a board with breadboard ends and a small paper tag affixed beneath the trophy indicates the details of the catch. The model is in very good to excellent overall condition, with original surface, a few minor scrapes, and small repair to the bread board end of the background plaque. These plaques were mounted on walls and had holes drilled through the mounting board and such is the case here. A wonderful folk art addition to your log cabin home or Adirondack style sporting decor! Dimensions: 15 in H x 53 in W x 3.5 in D.
