Small size, early 1900s Gothic Revival light fixture.
In architecture, a chimera or grotesque is a fantastic or mythical figure used for decorative purposes, but in the 12th and 13th century (when most people were illiterate) they were first used for 'telling' mythical stories. Inspired by the novel of Victor Hugo, inspired by the many Gothic churches, but also by folklore and mythical stories, the more artistic designers in early 20th century France created some of the most decorative and meaningful antiques ever. This type of sculptural Gothic art is not for everyone, but if you have an eye for rare and meaningful antiques and if you appreciate the workmanship that was required to create this striking pendant then you could not wish for better value for money.
