In our Pivot Family fixtures, we create "an ecosystem in which all the elements are interrelated, interdependent, perfectly balanced, without trimming or un-utilized parts" - to borrow from the painter Charley Harper, whose minimal realism always inspires. The geometry of the spun aluminium shade is designed to visually extend the lines of the steel arm and the cloth cord that hold each shade aloft. The cord family is a celebration of form driven by physics. The series began as an exercise to simplify Jean Prouvé’s Classic Potence lamp by using the fixture's electrical cord in place of the guy wire. The result is a pleasing symmetry between the structural members. The family utilizes the principle of tensegrity, or floating compression, where the compression of the steel arm resists the tension of the cloth electrical cord to hold the custom ceramic socket aloft. The Church Family was first created to illuminate California Modernist Rudolph Schindler's Bethlehem Baptist Church in Los Angeles. Schindler called his work “Space Architecture,” meaning he designed not just for structure but also the climate, light and mood of an interior space. Inspired by this thinking our Church fixtures are designed to cast light not down but up and out, with globe bulbs exposed and celebrated. The church chandelier continues our exploration of tensegrity fixtures. From the exposed globe bulbs to the spun aluminium sockets and the machined collars, this chandelier makes a dramatic impression. The three-part axis of symmetry provides welcome visual intrigue to rectilinear spaces. Black, Black & Brass, White & Stainless, and White & Brass (Shown) finishes available.
