Danish Art Deco Opaline Glass Pendant by Fyens Glasværk

About the Item

An Art Deco opaline glass pendant from the 1930s by Fyens Glasværk of Denmark. Great quality and craftsmanship from the blowing of the opaline glass to the brass work on the lamp. The opaline glass is in great condition with no cracks or chips. Just the usual small air bubble here and there. The brass is also in great condition with a lovely age related patina to the surface. The lamp has been rewired and insulated so no need for grounding. Original E27 bulb holder. Danish lighting design and manufacturing at its absolute best. 1873-1889 ODENSE GLASSWORK Glasværket start dates back to 1873 under the name Odense Glasværk and was supposed to produce bottles, lighting glass, decanters and drinking glasses. 1889 It was not possible to make the glassworks profitable for several reasons, the company went bankrupt. 1890-1902 FYEN's GLASSWORK 1890 Konsul Hey bought Odense Glasværk and formed a new company, which was named Fyens Glasværk. 1899 Fyens Glasværk acquires Rosdala Glasbruk, Sweden. 1902-1907 A/S THE UNITED GLASSWORKS 1902 Fyens Glasværk buys Aarhus Glasværk and the three glassworks Fyens Glasværk, Rosdala Glasbruk, Småland and Aarhus Glasværk are transferred to the company A/S De forenede Glasværker. 1903 A catalog is published which displays a large range of lighting glass, articles for electric lighting, household glass, jugs, biscuit tins and business card bowls. The considerable bottle production that De forenenede Glasværker had partly in Aarhus and in Odense does not appear in any catalogue. 1907-1965 Kastrup GLASSWORK 1907 Consul Hey, Odense makes a proposal to merge existing glassworks into one company and this company became Kastrup Glasværk which consisted of De forenede Glasværker, Kastrup Glasværk and Hellerup Glasværk. 1908 Aalborg Glasværk joins the merger together under Kastrup Glasværk and now there are only two independent glassworks in Denmark, Kastrup Glasværk and Holmegaard Glasværk. 1910 A transfer of press glass production from Kastrup Glasværk to Odense begins until 1914 and the years up to 1955, press glass was produced in the Odense department. 1956 Jacob E. Bang is hired at Kastrup Glasværk becomes very important, as a large part of his design was just produced in the Odense department. 1965-1976 Kastrup OG Holmegaard ??GLASVÄRKER A/S 1965 A merger was carried out between Holmegaard Glasværk (Art and packaging department) and Kastrup Glasværk (Kastrup, Hellerup and Odense) into a new company called Kastrup og Holmegaards Glasværker A/S. The main shareholders are Carlsberg Bryggerierne, De forende Bryggerier and Elisabeth Lassen, who in 1945 inherited Holmegaard from her father, Count Aage Danneskiold-Samsøe. The products from the Odense branch were then labeled with Kastrup-Holmegaard, which, however, was changed to Holmegaard of Copenhagen after a short time. 1967 Jacob E. Bang's son Michael Bang is employed with a permanent position in the Odense department, which was of great importance for the production of cover glass. 1976 Danish Glass stamps. The profession of glassblower and glassmaker appears as a motif on stamps. 1977-1985 Holmegaard ??GLASSWORK 1985-1990 Royal Copenhagen A/S 1985 Holmegaard Glasværk is merged with Den kongelig Porcelænsfabrik, which also included Georg Jensen Sølvsmedie and the new company was named Royal Copenhagen A/S. The products from the Odense branch were then labeled Royal Copenhagen. 1990 was the year when the furnaces died and the light was turned off for Fyens Glasværk.
